Near Zero team
Josh Lappen is a master’s student in Stanford’s Atmosphere/Energy Engineering program, where he focuses on state climate and energy policy. In addition to his work as a research assistant with Near Zero, he has covered climate, natural resources, and public lands as a freelance journalist, publishing stories in both academic and national news outlets. While interning at the Department of the Interior, Josh authored a comparative study on the history of federal coal leasing which continues to be widely used by both government officials and outside researchers. After completing his master’s degree, he will continue his studies in the field of environmental history as a Marshall Scholar at the University of Oxford, where he intends to trace the political impacts of coal development in the American West.
